Petal of remembrance

During 2018 a poppy petal was blown onto my window pane and remained stuck there through the year and into 2019. I had a wonderful close up view of the petal and I watched it fade and morphe into a white smudge - and yes I don't wash my windows very often. 2018 being the centenary of the end of WW1 this petal took on special significance to me. I realised that if I painted my pet poppy petal I would never forget it, Memories of those who lost their lives and suffer during war change from the immediate grief to a more generic cultural memory, so like the poppy petal they may fade but they are not forgotten, there is an imprint in our culture.
